Keynote Presentation -- Social Entrepreneurship: Next Generation Trends and Challenges

New York, NY, May 27, 2011 – FA analyst Justin Goldbach delivered a lecture on the topic of social entrepreneurship at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain.  The presentation, titled “Next Generation Business Leadership,” kicked off the school’s first-ever Impact Weekend focused on developing socially responsible business plans.

Throughout the intensive, hands-on event, Impact Weekend empowered both current social entrepreneurs and students with the tools to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world through business.  The weekend’s activities were organized by IE Net Impact Club, iWeekend, Ashoka, and IE Venture Lab.

After Justin’s keynote, the weekend began with an open pitching session on Friday evening, where a short list of 12 ideas were pitched in front of an audience of judges and Impact Weekend participants; 5 were selected. 10 students worked on each of these 5 ideas on Saturday and Sunday, using innovative and practical methodologies to build scalable ventures that address real-world issues. Established experts in social entrepreneurship provided valuable mentoring advice throughout the weekend. On Sunday evening, each team pitched their plans to a handful of European investors working in both traditional and socially oriented venture capital firms. In addition to gaining exposure and media attention, the winning team was provided with a direct entry into the next IE Venture Lab, whose classes begin in September 2011.
